A cultural tour through north and central India

This August my husband and I took a cultural tour of north and central India. A last minute ban on trekking in Uttarakhand forced us to cancel our trek to the valley of the flowers. So instead of traveling north from Delhi we turned south headed to Agra – Khajuraho – Varanasi -BodhGaya – Nalanda- Ranch and then back to Delhi. Although it was more of a last minute trip we were still able to get confirmed train tickets for all our legs. The only bus ride we took was from Gaya to Ranchi( even though we had a confirmed ticket on the train bound in the same direction). But that is a story for another time.

Seeing the glory of  ancient India made me wonder.Did we progress or regress? With all the advances in technology will we be able to build another Taj, sculpt another Khajuraho, offer high quality education to  ten thousand  students from round the world free of cost, attain enlightenment?

I leave you with a select set of pictures from my trip.

  1. Too bad about having to cancel your trek through the valley of flowers. I’ve seen photos of that place…wow! But your trip looks like it was very fulfilling and thought-provoking. Interesting selection of photos. Cheers, Julie

    • Thanks Julie. It was a thought provoking trip. Especially when you consider the fact that all of the sites I visited was built with basic materials and mostly by human hands.
